Pushkin - Catherine's Palace
Pushkin, now a St. Petersburg suburb, is the site of Catherine the
Great's palace. Like the Peterhof, Peter the Great's little summer
home, it was ravaged and pretty much destroyed by the Germans, and
Pushkin was the site of horrific mass murders of Jewish and other
restorations which began shortly after the war have been nothing short
of astounding and exhilerating, though the priceless Amber panels in
Catherine's Palace have yet to be recovered.
