Intolerance and
Discrimination Resources
What we're witnessing at Rocky Pond is nothing new. Many towns,
especially those that are highly homogeneous, have yet to put in place
human relations programs or anti-discrimination resources. Public
officials speak out carelessly, partly because they simply haven't been
trained. This is as true in New England as in other parts of the
country. Yet, all evidence points to a rising tide of hate language,
integration of hateful symbols into the popular culture, a potent mix
of drugs, violence and sexual-harrassment, gender prejudice, and fear
in a world heavy with 'foreign' terrorism and economic insecurity. Here
is a first cut at resources which may be consulted for additional
information, including newsletters, up to date bulletins, and materials
for law enforcement officials. Please send us your favorite sites. And
urge Boylston or your town's officials to take all this seriously, not
just give it passing lip service when there is an event. Events lead to
crises...
